During the late 1970s, the Clantone neighborhood was one of the largest barrios stretching south down Western to Wilshire from Santa Monica in Hollywood and it is because of the original barrio of Clantone 14 we have 18th Street. The original Clantone barrio was in the Pico-Union area off 14th Street and when some Clantone members that lived off of 18th Street started another barrio, Clantone 18, they were met with resistance from most Clantone 14 members. This created a division between Clantone 14 members and those wanting to continue Clantone 18. Rather than dropping the 18, these members decided to drop Clantone, and became 18th Street.
