THE LOTT 13
History of THE LOTT X3 SURENOS Gang / TLS 13
By A. Martinez, June 28, 2004
In the mid to late 70's in EAST LOS ANGELES, a new gang phenomena occurred on the East Side, the STONER era began. (every true East Sider can confirm) During this time, many of the old traditional cholo varrios had died down tremendously, there were a very few older cholos in East Los, but most of them were "tecatos" and that was very unappealing to this younger generation coming up in East Los, so many of the youngsters evolved into Stoner gangs, getting high on yesca, pisto, pildoras and frios (PCP). Heroin was a straight no/no to this generation during this time period and we had seen how much "carga" would degrade a man to a very low status.
During the Stoner era in East Los, there were NO youngsters from El Hoyo Maravilla; there was only Hole Stoners in that territory. There were NO youngsters from Lopez Maravilla, there was only The Humpreys Stoners (Many of these vatos got into THE LOTT 13). There were NO youngster from Rock Maravilla and there were only High Time Stoners in the Maravilla projects. During the early 1980s came the Rascals 13 and there were also "Stoners 13 Locos" out of the Varrio Nuevo Estrada projects; Hicks Boys, Slows 13, F.T.W. Stoners, the Crazy Stoners and others. But the biggest of all the Stoner gangs in East Los was THE LOTT STONERS X3 gang with well over 120 active gang members, all youngsters; all very active.
Since Geraghty Loma was on the opposite side of City Terrace Park, and inactive, they had no youngsters; THE LOTT STONERS gang covered a huge - massive territory. THE LOTT 13 gang varrio borders by the early 80's were from Gage Ave on the East (Gage Boys & Folsom St. Locos / both enemies) and the 710 Freeway to the east (since there was no Lopez Maravilla active at that time). Every Friday night about 40 to 50 LOTT members would head up to the hills above the 710 FWY to drink and get high. The southern border of the neighborhood was Brooklyn Avenue now called Cesar Chavez (Hole Stoners/now HMV worst enemy) and our Northern border was City Terrace Ave. (The Slows 13). THE LOTT had all the hills above City Terrace Park as it was the main hangout, especially during the summer months. THE LOTT also had other hangouts on Hammel Street, Fisher Street, Bonnie Beach Pl., Record Street, Blanchard Street, and even a big hangout with many homeboys in Boyle Heights on Alma Street, but still the heart of the varrio had moved one block down from Van Pelt to where Brannick and Blanchard Streets meet. That was and is still known today as the heart of the THE LOTT 13 varrio. It would be a very common site in the summers of the early 80's to see 60, 70 homeboys at THE LOTT on Brannick St.
Obviously, like all other gangs, THE LOTT 13 Locos were involved in crimes that included grand theft auto, bike stealing, slanging dope but all the feuds with our rival gangs were settle the Old School Way, "a puros trancasos" proving yourself with your own fists. The LOTT used to throw down with the Gage Boys, Hole Stoners, Folsom St Locos, High Times Stoners at Belvedere Jr. High, Garfield High School, and East L.A. Skill Center.
As the homeboys began getting busted and doing years behind bars our look gradually became more of the traditional Cholo gang. Homeboys starting getting "TLS X3" and "LOTT X3" stamped (tattooed) on their bodies as we became more hard-core in gang life-style. The LOTT also lost some homeboys in the early 80's including Frankie, Pablo, and Toker (R.I.P.). By the mid to late 80's, THE LOTT 13 SURENOS had evolved into a traditional Cholo n'hood and all the madness that comes with it.
In 1989 all the old traditional gangs in East Los starting recruiting all the Stoner gangs and taggers, who had just recently popped into the scene. Before that, THE LOTT's traditional enemies were: Hole Stoners, High Times Stoners, Rascals 13, Gage Boys, Folsom St. Locos, and Stoners 13 Locos. All of these gangs except for the S13L's, got jumped into the local MV gang, so now THE LOTT’s enemies became Hoyo Maravilla, Lopez Maravilla, Maravilla Rifa, Gage Maravilla, Rascals Maravilla, and High Times Maravilla. After the green light on all Maravillas in 1993, all MV gangs became enemies with all East Los ~Sureño gangs such at THE LOTT 13 Gang.
