Members of the LAPD and city officials announced a gang injunction in the city of Hollywood at a Nov. 6 press conference.
“The city of Los Angeles and Hollywood residents and businesses have invested too much effort and too much money into revitalizing Hollywood to let drug dealers stand in our way,” City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo said. “Money from crack deals on Hollywood’s streets ends up in the hands of gang members. Gang members use that money to buy guns, and guns buy power to terrorize communities all over the city. We must cut off the revenue stream to end this cycle of violence.”
The court action will bar gangs’ members and drug dealers from selling narcotics in a section of Hollywood that includes Santa Monica Blvd., going north up to Franklin Ave. Specifically, the action is directed towards the 18th Street Gang, and prohibits members from associating with each other in public; carrying weapons, graffiti or vandalism tools; engaging in any drug sales; harassing or intimidating any person for any reason, and being outside between the hours of 10 p.m. and sunrise for non-legitimate reasons.
