Injunction facts

July 31, 2004

Who it affects

Only gang members personally served must obey the injunction. Superior Court Judge Fredrick Bysshe approved the injunction in June, and police began serving gang members who have criminal histories, have previously admitted gang membership, and-or wear tattoos showing gang affiliation. After a person is served, police must prove to a judge that the person is a gang member and is still active.

What it prohibits

  • Associating with Colonia Chiques gang members in the 6.6-square-mile area targeted by the injunction.
  • Intimidating witnesses or threatening residents.
  • Possessing guns or other weapons.
  • Being involved in any activity related to drugs or alcohol.
  • Getting into fights.
  • Using gang gestures or wearing clothing associated with gangs, including Dallas Cowboys jerseys and jackets.
  • Painting graffiti or possessing graffiti tools.
  • Trespassing.
  • Being outside their homes from 10 p.m. to sunrise.
  • Acting as a lookout.
  • Violating any other law.

Violators face up to six months in jail on misdemeanor charges. They can then be placed on probation for up to two years.
