Francesco Schettino, Costa Concordia captain, lied & whined after abandoning ship

The Italian captain who ran his cruise ship aground last week was exposed as a cringing chicken of the sea who repeatedly refused orders to return to his sinking ship.
In a remarkable phone recording made public Wednesday, a raging Coast Guard chief commandant shouts over and over at Capt. Francesco Schettino to row his lifeboat back to the luxury liner and see to his passengers.
“Go aboard! Go aboard!” Gregorio De Falco barks in the 1:46 a.m. call.
“You’ve abandoned ship. I’m in charge now,” he said. “You take that rope ladder, you go aboard and you tell me whether there are children, women or people needing assistance on board. Is that clear?
“Schettino, you may have saved yourself from the sea, but I’m going to make you pay, I’m going to make you miserable. Get the (bleep) ON BOARD!”
In a meek voice, the quivering captain offers De Falco a series of excuses: he’s helping out from his lifeboat, other lifeboats are blocking the way back, the ship is listing too much to climb back onto.
