Many in the media, have stated that Jamiel Shaw was not a gang member, but statements on his myspace page should raise some questions about his street affiliations and whether these associations caused him to be murdered. Many have suggested that he was murdered in an act of random violence, or that the assailant targeted young Jamiel because he was black. Although, there has been tensions between Mexican-American and blacks in Los Angeles, only some of it is racial and certainly not to the degree that many have suggested. Statements on Jamiel's web site provide more insight into why he was murdered. Below is a screen capture of his page which is set to private, so unless you are on his friends list, you cannot read the entire page in it's entirety. The letter "c" is also deliberately spelled in lowercase to because this letter is synonymous with Crips. He spells the word "Black" the same way. - "30k" means 30s Crip killer, the main Crip rival of the Bloods in this neighborhood. - Here is the irony, he writes "eK" meaning Eighteen Killer, a gang at war with the Bloods, and the same gang which Pedro Espinoza, Jamiel's killer was from.
