How it is being from a Varrio By Sergio "Joker" Fierro for Street Gangs Magazine October 7, 2005 I all started back in 1980 when I started banging for the West Side Black Diamonds (BDS) from the clica Los Bagos. I go by the name of Joker and I’m a Chicano brown and proud. I was introduced to all my older homies which became my future big homies and from then on I was willing to kill for my varrio for life. I started going to central juvenile hall, Sylmar and Los Padrinos, and from there to a maximum security lock down then to Y.A. (Youth Authority). Now I’m in the big house. Oer the years, I loved being around my homies and my thirst for representing my varrio BDS grew, but I soon found out that there was more to it than just saying Black Diamonds! I was never forewarned about the trials and tribulations of being a gang member. I was confronted by many different varrios in West LA. I’m now 36 yrs old and my whole entire life have been behind these prison walls. I have educated myself mentally as well as physically. I will finally hit the streets in 2009. That will be almost 18 yrs of my life behind bars. To all you readers of Street Gangs Magazine, prison and the crazy life will only get you to this, either life, paralyzed, or dead.
