DEPUTY MICHAEL HOENIG

Deputy Hoenig was killed on 30 October 1997. He had been following a suspect who was riding a bicycle in the early hours of the morning. As he stopped his patrol car alongside the bicycle, the suspect fired several shots into the vehicle, striking Deputy Hoenig in the head and neck. The officer was found lying beside the vehicle, his gun drawn but not fired. The suspect was found hiding nearby, and led officers to where he had thrown his handgun. Michael Hoenig was a 10 year veteran and was single. He is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
