Los Angeles County sheriff’s investigators are continuing to look into the shooting of a 17-year-old by South Gate police, authorities said Monday.

The incident began at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, when officers were called to Montara Avenue and Tweedy Boulevard after a reported carjacking, in which a man was stabbed and pulled from the vehicle, the sheriff’s department said. The victim was treated at a hospital and released.

A short time later, South Gate officers found the stolen GMC Sierra abandoned about a half-mile away, department officials said in a statement.

“While surveilling the vehicle, officers saw four male suspects approach it and begin removing items from inside,” the sheriff’s statement said. “As South Gate Police Department officers attempted to contact the suspects, they got in another car … and sped away.”
