An 18-year-old Venice High School student and reputed gang member was arrested this afternoon after allegedly threatening to bring a gun to school and shoot rivals, Los Angeles police said.

The student, who was not identified, was arrested on suspicion of making terrorist threats at his residence in the Mid-City area about 3 p.m. today police said.

Authorities said students were not in danger and police acted immediately after learning of the threat.

The Oakwood district, which is near Venice High School, has been a flashpoint for gang violence, but the campus has been relatively unaffected except for a few incidents in recent years.

In 2006, Venice High School student Agustin Contreras, 17, was fatally shot on campus as he tried to protect his younger brother.
