OAKLAND — Six suspected gang members were arrested Sunday after robbing a 22-year-old man as he walked to a store in East Oakland, police said.

The robbery happened about 12:45 p.m. in the 2200 block of High Street. The victim was walking to the store when he was confronted by five men and a woman who police said are suspected members of the East Seventh Locos.

One of the suspects, a 19-year-old man, drew a gun while another member of the group demanded money, Sgt. Barry Donelan said. Officers later recovered that gun from the man, they said.

As the victim was handing over money, he was able to start running. About a block away he saw Officers Kelly Rainbird and John Breden in a police car. The officers called for help and were able to detain all six suspects.

Besides the 19-year-old man, police arrested an 18-year-old woman, an 18-year-old man and three 17-year-old boys.

All six suspects were being questioned Sunday night by Donelan and Officer Dave Wong, and were arrested on suspicion of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.
