Two teens have been charged with murder for what police say was the gang-related slaying of an 18-year-old man on a Pasadena street in August.
Steven Fleming, 19, of Pasadena, and Scott King, 19, of Palmdale, were arrested Wednesday and charged for the murder of Marvin Laguan, 18, who was gunned down while talking to a friend on Mar Vista Avenue on the evening of Aug. 22.
Detectives from the Pasadena and Glendale police departments, state parole officers and a U.S. Marshal’s fugitive task force — which taps officers from several local police agencies — took part in the investigation.
King was also charged with being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and both he and Fleming were charged with having gang associations that could extend their sentences if convicted. King is being held on $4.1-million bail and Fleming on $3-million bail.
At the time of Laguan’s death, acquaintances said he had recently moved from Alhambra to Pasadena and was trying to emerge from gang associations to help raise his young son.
