A 21-year-old reputed gang member who was free on bail in a narcotics case and two teenage accomplices were in custody Friday in connection with an armed robbery at a Van Nuys jewelry store, police said.

Mayo Linton of Los Angeles and two boys, ages 16 and 17, whose names were not released, are suspected in the Wednesday takeover robbery of Don Roberto, 7946 Van Nuys Blvd., officials said.

Armed with guns, they ordered customers to the floor and smashed glass display cases before fleeing in a red car with an undisclosed amount of jewelry, police said. Patrol officers caught up to them and made an arrest a few blocks away. Two other accomplices escaped.

Police said they recovered at least one gun and the jewelry.

Detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Division are investigating whether the suspects were involved in several other robberies, including one Feb. 3 at a jewelry store in the 23000 block of Mulholland Boulevard in Calabasas and a Don Roberto jewelry store in Hawthorne.

Linton was being held at the Los Angeles County Jail in lieu of $90,000 bail. The two teens were being held at Sylmar Juvenile Hall.

Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Robbery-Homicide detectives at (213) 485-2511.
