Friday, March 12, 2004 – LANCASTER — A reputed gang member has been charged with the murder of a rival gang member who was shot to death outside his home.

Darren Norman, 19, of Lancaster is charged in the October 2003 slaying of 27-year-old Trevon Coleman in the 400 block of East Avenue H-14.

“It was a murder that occurred over a dispute,” Deputy District Attorney Carlos Chung said.

Norman was arrested March 4. He was being held on more than $2 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned March 24.

Coleman was shot during an argument at 9:15 a.m. Oct. 16. He stumbled away from his yard and collapsed near a utility pole.Coroner’s officials said he was shot in front of the house at least three times.

Sheriff’s deputies searched an apartment less than a block away, where they found a trail of blood leading to an upstairs apartment. The suspect was not inside.

Coleman’s was one of three gang-related Antelope Valley killings that occurred within a week of each other last October.

Two hours after Coleman was shot to death, 16-year-old Julio Villegas was walking with a friend along 2nd Street East in Palmdale when a car pulled up beside them and a passenger opened fire. The former Highland High School student was struck in the head and died at Antelope Valley Hospital three days later.

Villegas’ friend recognized the car’s occupants as members of a local street gang, officials said.

On Oct. 20, Allen Davis, 27, of Lancaster was mortally wounded outside his home in the 43700 block of 27th Street East. Coroner’s officials said they were told the shooting might have been gang-related.
