BALTIMORE – 16-Year-Old Desmond Sims has been charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Jeffrey Ward Jr. on December 29th of last year according to police spokesman Detective Kevin Hagan.
Sims, a resident of the 3800 block of Boarman Avenue in Baltimore, was arrested this week by Baltimore City Police.
The police department has filed documents with the court indicating that they believe the murder was part of Sims’ gang initiation.
Although he is being charged as an adult, Sims is the youngest person to be charged with a murder in the city this year.
The homicide investigation by city police, which includes information gathered from a witness to the murder, showed that Sims shot Ward multiple times using a .45-caliber gun.
When officers found Ward he had been shot several times in the head and was lying on his stomach. He was taken to Sinai Hospital for treatment, but was later pronounced dead.
Detectives questioned Sims with his parents, but he denies having any involvement in the shooting.
