A man shot by Oxnard police Friday night is a Colonia Chiques gang member who will soon be served with the city’s anti-gang injunction, authorities said Monday.

Miguel Morales, 23, who was shot in the buttocks and shoulder, remained Monday at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where a police officer was standing guard outside his room.

Morales is suspected of brandishing a sawed-off shotgun while walking in the 100 block of North Hayes Avenue about 8 p.m. Friday. He was shot by an officer after he refused to lower the shotgun and instead loaded a second round and advanced toward the officer, according to police.

The wounded Morales fled into a nearby home, then surrendered after a three-hour standoff, police said.

Morales will be taken into custody once he is released from the hospital, and faces charges of brandishing a firearm at a police officer, authorities said. He also will be served with the injunction, which will prohibit him from associating with other gang members, staying out past 10 p.m. and partaking in other gang-related activities.
