TORRANCE, Calif. (AP) A 15-year-old girl who was shot in the head outside a South Los Angeles high school last week died Friday, relatives said.

Deliesh Allen had been in critical condition at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center since the March 17 shooting.

“Our prayers didn’t fail. This is God’s will,” said the girl’s aunt, Candacy Roberts, outside the hospital. “Out of this tragedy, maybe there’s hope for this city yet.”

Hospital spokeswoman Julie Rees declined to comment.

Authorities said Allen was hit by a stray bullet in a gang-related attack about 50 steps from the entrance of Locke High School after clblankes ended.

Dejuan Hines, 18, a suspected gang member, was taken into custody at the home of a relative in South Los Angeles. Hines was charged with attempted murder, but prosecutors were expected to file a murder case before his arraignment next week, district attorney’s spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said.

An attorney who has represented Hines, Tom Stanley, has said authorities arrested and charged the wrong suspect.
