Manatee SUR-13 member accepts plea bargain in RICO case

MANATEE — A SUR-13 gang member was sentenced to 15 years in state prison Thursday after pleading to charges of racketeering and conspiracy.

Daniel Robledo was among 13 defendants charged in October 2011 in the fifth Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization investigation targeting Manatee County gangs. Robledo withdrew his official plea of not guilty Thursday in accepting a bargain that dropped three armed robbery charges.

Robledo is already serving a life sentence for second-degree murder in the 2011 shooting death of Elvis Ruiz.

“We’ve been very successful with RICO investigations,” said Sheriff Brad Steube. “You’ve got to credit the hard work of our guys, the statewide prosecutors and the state attorney’s office because this is a collaborative effort. We all work together, linking historical investigations with predicate crimes and linking that with the fact they are gang members.”

Eight other members previously accepted plea bargains in the case.

Marbin Villacorta and Luis Ortiz were each sentenced to 10 years. Martin Augustin received a 131-month sentence. Danny Duran was given 13 years in prison.
