NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A Nashville police officer has wounded a man in what authorities say was their attempt to intervene in gang activity.

Police said they received a tip of possible gang violence at midday Tuesday near Tennessee State University and went to the scene.

Police spokesman Don Aaron told reporters an officer shot Aaron Gooch after he did not comply with police demands to drop his gun.

Police said 23-year-old Kenneth Ellis had already been shot, apparently by Gooch. Ellis was in stable condition Tuesday evening and Gooch was in critical condition.

Officers said the two were affiliated with rival gangs.

No police officers were hurt. According to WSMV-TV, it was the fourth shooting involving a Nashville police officer this month.
