An Oxnard gang member was arrested Sunday morning on suspicion of beating a man outside Circle K.

Oxnard police officers saw Cain Martinez, 27, engaged in a fight inside the victim’s car at 2 a.m. in the 1950 block of North Ventura Road.

Police officers attempted to detain Martinez, who fled the area. After a foot pursuit and struggle, Martinez was taken into custody, police said.

Martinez entered the victim’s unlocked vehicle and sat in the pblankenger’s seat. The owner of the vehicle confronted the suspect and a fight ensued, police said.

It is unclear if the two knew each other.

The victim sustained several injuries, including a fracture around his left eye, a fractured nose and a fractured jaw. The victim was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center and treated for the injuries.

Martinez was arrested and charged with felony battery, two counts of violation of the Colonia Chiques gang injunction and delaying a peace officer in the performance of their duty.
