LANCASTER — Two men were injured Thursday in what sheriff’s deputies said was a gang-related shooting in Lancaster.

The two victims were shot about 11:30 a.m. near the intersection of Division Street and Avenue J-8, said Deputy Michael Montesdeoca of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lancaster Station.

One was taken to a hospital in an ambulance, and the other to a hospital by helicopter, but both were expected to survive.

Two Lancaster city employees were investigating a vandalism case at the intersection when they heard gunshots nearby, Montesdeoca said.

The city employees then saw a black truck speed by and contacted authorities, Montesdeoca said.

Sheriff’s deputies contacted by radio stopped the truck a few minutes later, and learned that the driver had dropped off several people at the corner of Second Street East and Avenue J-8, two blocks from where the shots were originally reported.

Sheriff’s deputies blankembled outside a house location provided by the driver of the truck eventually detained five men for questioning in the shooting, Montesdeoca said.

No arrests have yet been made.
