A group of three apparent gang members beat and robbed two people in separate incidents in downtown Oxnard on Wednesday night, police said.

About 9:15 p.m., the three men approached a car in the parking lot of La Gloria Market on Oxnard Boulevard, brandishing an aluminum baseball bat, said Oxnard Police Sgt. Lisa Ragone.

They yelled a gang name, flashed gang signs, and demanded the wallet of the man in the car. The three men attacked him with the bat and their fists and took his wallet, Ragone said.

About 40 minutes later, just a block away on Fifth Street, the same three men approached another car and flashed gang signs at the driver. Again, they attacked him with the baseball bat and took his wallet.

Oxnard police had yet to arrest anyone by Thursday evening in connection with the robberies.

Neither victim was seriously injured. The first had cuts and bruises on his arms and the back of his head but refused medical treatment, Ragone said, and the second victim’s injuries were less severe.
