Inspectors check homes for fire safety compliance

Inspectors for Cal Fire and the Fresno County Fire Protection District are fanning out across the county to make sure residents are clearing 100 feet of defensible space around their homes in case of fire.

Inspectors will be making sure dead or dying vegetation has been removed from around all structures. A target date for compliance is May 15. Requirements also include a 10-foot clearance from propane tanks and removing wood piles that are within 30 feet of structures.

Inspectors, who will drive Cal Fire vehicles and be dressed in Cal Fire uniforms, also will be making sure that trees are trimmed 8 feet above ground level. For details, go to a local Cal Fire or Fresno County Fire Protection District station or visit www.fresnocountyfire.org.
