‘Operation Knockout’ Is Largest Gang Sweep In Salinas History

SALINAS, Calif. –Police said they are looking for two people in connection with Operation Knockout, a mblankive gang sweep that started in Salinas on April 22.

Adrian Lopez, 27, and Amaro Basurto, 21, have arrest warrants out on suspicion of sales of a controlled substance.

Police also said that three people — Raymond Collins, 43, Cesar Ledezman, 29, and Juan Gabriel Zepeda, 33 — were arrested on arrested on suspicion of a controlled substance after the initial raid on April 22 that netted 37 arrests.

Operation Knockout is a crackdown in connection with a “rampage of violence” that included more than three-dozen kil#i*ggs and 200 shootings that have terrorized Salinas and nearby areas. The gang sweep is the largest in Salinas’ history.

The sweep on April 22 was the culmination of an eight-month operation aimed at apprehending members of the Nortenos and Surenos gangs, Attorney General Jerry Brown said.

Based on the charges filed in court, Operation Knockout was intended to cut the lifeblood of the Norteno and Sureno gangs — drug sales. Police said it is the drugs that fuel a violent and deadly turf war between the gangs.
