Cops: SUV used to try to kill rival gang member

Chicago Tribune | April 30, 2011

A West Chicago man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder in the hit-and-run injury of a rival gang member last weekend in Elgin, authorities said.

Francisco Suarez, 22, was arrested Friday because police say he used his 1996 Chevrolet Tahoe to run down a 21-year-old Rosemont man and break his leg on April 23, said Elgin police spokeswoman Susan Olafson in a news release.

Suarez was ordered held without bail in an appearance in Kane County Court before Associate Judge T. Jordan Gallagher this morning, according to court records.

The Rosemont man was walking near Prospect Boulevard and Seneca Street about 4:30 p.m. last Saturday with a friend when Suarez ran him over with his Tahoe, police said.

The victim suffered a broken leg and other injuries and was treated at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, police said.

Suarez was arrested Friday at a relative’s home in West Chicago.

In addition to attempted murder, Suarez faces aggravated battery charges. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison on the attempted murder charge. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday at 9 a.m. in Kane County Court.
