Watsonville Gang Sweep Nets 46 Arrests
In a news release the city says that for the past two weeks, the Watsonville Police Department and the FBI have concluded a yearlong gang enforcement to directly target gang activity in the city.
Watsonville Police say during the operation they arrested 46 people, including three juveniles. They also seized 18 firearms (some that were stolen) as well as 21 grams of meth and heroin.
They have also issued warrants for charges ranging from weapons and drug violations, probation and parole violations and criminal street gang violations.
The operation targeted the Sureno gang faction in Watsonville called Poorside Watsonville or PSW. Watsonville PD’s gang unit said they noticed the gang growing in numbers, recruiting some even as young as 12 years old. They also said their crimes were growing more and more violent in nature.
Some of those arrested over the past year, have already been sentenced to 10 years in prison.
