Man injured in gang-related shooting near Whittier

Whittier Daily News | May 17, 2011

WHITTIER – An 18-year-old man was shot in the leg Monday night in what deputies say was a gang-related attack.

The injury wasn’t deemed life-threatening.

Deputies believe the man was in the 9900 block of Du Page Avenue when several suspects confronted him. He fled and was shot, Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Westphal said.

The sheriff’s Norwalk Station got wind of the incident when calls came in at 9:45 p.m. about gunshots in the unincorporated county area near Whittier. Westphal said they also found bullet casings there.

Westphal said Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier notified the station about a gunshot victim at the hospital.

The victim was uncooperative.

“He tried to give false details on where the incident occurred,” Westphal said.

There were no descriptions given of the suspects or the getaway car.
