Man Stabbed Twice In Gang Related Fight in Santa Cruz




SANTA CRUZ, Calif-  On Saturday Police responded to reports of a 21- year-old who had been stabbed on the 300 blk. of 2nd Street. According to witness statements, it appeared the stabbing stemmed from a verbal dispute between the victim and rival gang members.

According to the police  the victim and two of his friend were walking down the street when they were confronted by three to four suspects. After an exchange of words and gang related hand signs, the verbal dispute escalated and the victim was stabbed twice in the arm.

 Police say that following the stabbing the victim and his friends ran to the area of Cliff Street and 1st Street, while the suspects fled north on Cliff Street.

Two of the suspects, identified as Gustavo Lopez and Edwardo Casilles, were detained by the police in the area of Cliff Street and 3rd Street.

Witness identified both Lopez and Casllies as being present during the fight, but their involvement in the stabbing could not be confirmed. When interviewed by officers, police say that the victim was only willing to provide limited information.

Lopez was arrested for a parole violation and Casilles was arrested for public intoxication.

Both were booked in to the Santa CruzCounty Jail.
