Oakland police arrest 26 in gang crackdown

Associated Press

OAKLAND, Calif.—More than two dozen suspected gang members are facing charges after a crackdown on gang and drug activity by Oakland police.

Police say they arrested 26 people while serving warrants Thursday targeting the so-called “Ghost Town” gang.

Members of the gang are believed to be responsible for a number of crimes, including murder, assaults, carjacking and drug-related offenses.

Police say the arrests come after four months of undercover investigations and gathering intelligence on the gang.

In 2008, Oakland police carried out a similar sweep targeting the so-called “Acorn” gang.
