Family: Slain Evanston teen in wrong place at wrong time

Kimberly Gervacio said she and her mother had a “bad feeling” Thursday afternoon before her 18-year-old brother Omar Estrada left for Chicago’s Touhy Park.

Now Gervacio and her family are left to wonder why the Evanston teen was shot in the head that evening while sitting with two teen girls on a park bench.

“He was not in gangs, you know,” said Estrada’s stepfather, Luis Gutierrez. “He was never in trouble. I think maybe he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Estrada, a student at Evanston Township High School, was sitting on a park bench at about 7:45 p.m. Thursday when he was shot in the head, according to a police report. He was pronounced dead just before 6 a.m. Friday at Saint Francis Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

  1. I have been browsing online more than 3 hours today, yet I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s pretty worth enough for me. In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made good content as you did, the net will be a lot more useful than ever before.
