Cops make Canoga Park gang sweep
Authorities arrested more than two dozen suspected gang members and probation and parole violators during a sweep Thursday of Canoga Park homes.
Seventeen suspects were arrested on suspicion of felony charges, while 10 others were picked up for misdemeanors. Among the suspects were members of the Canoga Park Alabama gang, said LAPD Capt. John Sherman.
“Our effort was to go out today and put a lot of pressure on Canoga Park Alabama Gang,” Sherman said. “It’s been a very successful day.”
The sweep was the first of two planned for this week in the west San Fernando Valley and is part of a Los Angeles Police Department operation dubbed New Horizon.
The 21-week, anti-gang program teams up LAPD detectives, Los Angeles Unified School District police, state parole officers and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
