ALTADENA – In a coordinated effort with the FBI, Altadena sheriff’s deputies, SWAT and special investigations teams, Pasadena police conducted simultaneous parole sweeps of residences in Pasadena and Altadena early Wednesday morning.Raids involving a total of about 40 law enforcement officers occurred on the 900 block of Elizabeth Street in Pasadena and on the 700 block of New York Drive in Altadena, police spokesman Lt. John Dewar said.

Police said they were targeting several individuals and encountered suspected gang members at the locations but only arrested Monte Russell, a male suspect in his mid-30s, on a parole violation.

Dewar said the search warrant was conducted in relation to gang-related activities and narcotics, and forms part of a long-term investigation focusing on the Pasadena Denver Lanes gang.

“It’s an investigation we started this last year involving narcotic sales and transport of narcotics involving gang members,” Dewar said.

“It’s a continuing investigation and we’re still looking at some other individuals,” he said. “This is just one step.”
