11 arrested after massive gang sweep

Eleven people were taken into custody this weekend after a massive gang sweep by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies with the North and South county Gang Violence Suppression Unit conducted a series of searches, contacts and what they called “high-profile suppression operations” from Ivanhoe to Earlimart.

Seven people from Earlimart; Jose Mendoza, 25, Ramon Estrada, 19, Robert Rivera, 18, Porfilio Rivera, 38, Jesus Ayon, 38, Oscar Losiza, 46 and one unidentified boy, 16. were arrested and face various possible charges, ranging from traffic offenses, to violating a court order to disorderly conduct, deputies said.

The juvenile who was taken into custody faces possible charges possession of a firearm and gang activity, deputies said.

Bartholomew Gurrola, 27, of Lindsay; Luiz Ortiz, 21, of Los Angeles and an unidentified 17-year-old boy from Alpaugh were also taken into custody during the operations.

Three vehicles were towed and five traffic citations were issued.
