5 arrested in Thousand Oaks attacks

Ventura County Star | May 29, 2013

Thousand Oaks police said they arrested five teens Wednesday after attempts to provoke fights.

Charges include gang conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon, participating in a criminal street gang, willful harm or injury to a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, police said.

Police said they arrested Alain Alvarez, 19; Jose Felipe, 18; and a 17-year-old; a 16-year-old; and a 14-year-old. All are from Thousand Oaks, police said.

The arrests followed at least two incidents, police said.

On April 19, Felipe and a juvenile tried to provoke a fight with two other males near Thousand Oaks High School, police said. The two victims were not injured, although the juvenile attacker pulled a switchblade-type knife, police said.

A second incident occurred about 3 p.m. April 30, police said. A boy and a female friend on a bench at Acorn Acres Park were approached by Alvarez and Felipe along with two juveniles, police said. Alvarez and Felipe told the boy to fight one of the juveniles, police said. The boy refused to fight and was attacked by Felipe and the two juveniles, police said. The boy did not seek medical attention, police said.

Police said that early Wednesday, 20 officers executed search warrants at four homes in Thousand Oaks. Four suspects were taken into custody in connection with the park attack, police said. A boy was arrested in connection with assault with a deadly weapon in the April 19 attack, police said.

Alvarez was taken to Ventura County jail and was being held late Wednesday afternoon in lieu of $100,000 bail, authorities said. Felipe also was being held at county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail, authorities said.

The three juveniles were taken to juvenile hall, police said.
