30 Shootings, List Grows as Over Half Were Gang Related

Earlier Saturday at about 11 a.m., a 25-year-old man was shot on the 5300 block of South Laflin Street. He was wounded in the arm.

About 3 p.m. Saturday a 56-year-old man standing on a corner in the 6200 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue was shot in the leg and taken to Stroger Hospital, police said.

About 6:45 p.m. Saturday, two men were shot in related incidents at 8400 and 8401 S. Muskegon Ave., an 18-year-old man with gang affiliation suffered a graze wound to the hip, a 19-year-old man was shot in the arm.

At 7:28 p.m. Saturday, a 17-year-old boy with gang affiliation was shot while standing on the sidewalk in the 7400 block of South Evans, he suffered a gunshot wound to the upper right thigh.

About 8 p.m. Saturday, someone in a green minivan shot a 19-year-old man an alleged gang member in the 7900 block of South Springfield Avenue. The shooting happened outside Bogan High School.

About 10:30 p.m. Saturday, a 47-year-old man who was shot in the right arm in a drive-by shooting while standing on the street in the 2900 block of North Milwaukee Avenue.

It was about 12:15 a.m. Sunday, when a brother and sister were shot in the 3900 block of West Gladys Avenue, the two were walking home from the store when approached by two men who accused one of the victims of witnessing something that had happened days before and the two ran when at least one of the men opened fire, striking both siblings, police said.

At 12:30 a.m. Sunday a 24-year-old man was shot in the cheek, a the 19-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the neck about and a 28-year-old man was shot in the right calf in the 10500 of South Corliss Avenue block.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the head about 12:30 a.m. on the street in the 5100 block of South Laflin Street, Identified as Darius Murphy, of 5345 S. Bishop St. was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County

At 12:36 p.m. Sunday on the 8000 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue a 32-year-old homeowner was shot in the hand and knee by a intruder that was trying to break into the home. After police responded they found several bundles of drugs in the home.

A 16-year-old boy was shot about 12:45 a.m. in the 1500 block of East 67th Street, with a gunshot wound to the arm.

About 12:50 a.m., in the 9200 block of South Blackstone a 25-year-old man is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the neck and chest, an 18-year-old man with gang affiliations is in “stable” condition with a gunshot wound to the left leg and a 27-year-old man with gang affiliations gunshot wound to the right arm.

At about 1 a.m. Sunday in the 3200 block of South Ashland Avenue a 19-year-old man and his lady companion were attacked by three men whom “without provocation” struck him in the head with a bat and beaten, taken to Stroger Hospital where doctors found he was also stabbed twice in the back. He was pronounced dead at 5:42 a.m.

At 1:50 p.m. Sunday , a 17-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to his lower right leg while he was riding in a friends car in the 7900 block of South Western Avenue when a gray Chevrolet Cavalier pulled alongside them, shouted gang slogans and fired a handgun into their vehicle.

About 2 a.m., two men sitting in a parked car were shot near 108th and Racine Ave. Leaving a 43-year-old man in critical condition when he was shot in the chest, the other man was a 22-year-old man with gang affiliations, he was shot in the shoulder and is listed in stable condition.

About 3:15 a.m., two men and two women were wounded during a shooting in the 9100 block of South Marshfield Ave.,

An 18-year-old gang member man walking in the 8400 block of South Escanaba Avenue suffered a graze wound when a suspect walked up and shot him but refused treatment.

About 1:10 p.m. Sunday afternoon a 18 year-old passenger in a car on the block of 5400 S. Kostner was shot in the head by a passing car that contained a group of men.

Around 2:36 p.m. a 22 year-old man was shot multiple times in the face as he was walking down an alley on the 3400 W. 30th Street .

At around 9:25 p.m. Sunday a man on the block of 4600 S. California Ave. was reported to have been shot in the back, he was taken to the Hospital in critical condition.

No one is in custody for any of the shootings. Calumet Area, Harrison Area and Wentworth Area detectives are investigating. Over half were gang related.
