Calif gang member gets life sentence for murder
SANTA ANA, Calif.—An Orange County man who shot and killed a fellow gang member at a graduation party has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
The Orange County Register reports that 23-year-old Luis Alberto Sanchez of Anaheim was sentenced Friday. Sanchez was found guilty in May of murdering Miguel Reyes in June 2008.
Prosecutors said Sanchez confronted Reyes about his decision to leave the gang at a graduation party for middle and high school students. During an argument that followed, Sanchez pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the chest.
Authorities say Sanchez fired into the crowd after shooting Reyes, striking a second person in the back of the head and severely wounding him.
