Northstate Agencies Team Up To Crackdown On Growing Gang Activity

CHICO, Calif. — The Chico Police Department says it was successful in creating an ad hoc anti-gang task force involving federal and state agencies, along with numerous departments in Butte and Shasta counties.

Following a spike in the number of gang-related crimes in the Northstate earlier this year, Chico Police formed a temporary task force to address the issue.Chico Police say they think the task force will make a significant dent in gang violence.”

I think it’ll have a real significant impact,” said Chico Police Sergeant Rob Merrifield.

“Not only are there a number of people that have been locked up as a result of it, but the intelligence that we gathered during the operation I think will allow us to address these gang issues far into the future.”

Internally, Chico P.D. moved personnel and resources from other assignments and created a framework for the task force.

They then teamed up with other agencies to cross city and county lines and jurisdictions.
