Police arrested an Oakland man Wednesday evening who was wanted in connection with a May 20 south Berkeley shooting that left a man and woman in critical condition.

Doran Williams Jr., 27, a suspected gang member, was arrested by Oakland police after a brief foot chase in Oakland, said Berkeley police spokeswoman Sgt. Mary Kusmiss.

Oakland police had followed him from a Richmond motel to Oakland where he stopped his car and ran, she said.

Police said the shooting of a 39-year-old man and 57-year-old woman who were sitting inside their car in the 1700 block of 63rd Street in Berkeley was the culmination of a “pre-existing dispute.”

The pair remain hospitalized.

“The motive for the shootings and whether this is part of an ongoing Oakland/Berkeley border feud is still being investigated,” Kusmiss said in a statement.

Williams was booked into jail on one count of attempted murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

Two weeks after the May 20 shooting, a 30-year-old Berkeley man was shot and killed just a block away. No arrests have been made in that crime.
