CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A troubled north Charlotte nightclub is about to be given a new lease on life.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said that Mi-Cabana’s on Eastway Drive will open soon. A year ago the club was shut down because of its link to gang violence. Federal agents said the gang MS-13 had planned crimes inside the club.

“[The] two gangs in town – MS-13 and Surreanos – they will be given notice that you can’t come back on this property,” said police attorney Mark Newbold, who helped craft the new restrictions.

MS-13 is one of the most violent street gangs not only in Charlotte, but the country. When police closed the club last year NewsChannel 36 spoke to Kim Thi, the owner.

When asked if he was going to fight to try and get her club opened again Thi said, “Yes sir, because I don’t do anything wrong.”

Police said she is close to getting a second chance, but officers want to make sure the same clientele does not return.
