Kennewick man allegedly gets in middle of gang fight

Paula Horton (Tricity Herald) | June 28, 2011

An 18-year-old Kennewick man was arrested after getting severely cut on his hand while reportedly jumping into a gang fight in Underwood Park.

The deep cuts ended up severing the tendons in Eualio Galvan’s hand, and he will need surgery to have them fixed, authorities said.

Kennewick police received a report about 10 to 15 people fighting at Underwood Park, in the 2200 block of West Seventh Avenue, around 8:45 p.m. Sunday, said Mike Blatman, Kennewick police spokesman.

When officers arrived, the crowd ran off, but officers got a call a short time later from Galvan’s mother, saying her son was at Kennewick General Hospital being treated for the cuts to his hand.

Galvan, who was cut with a sharp instrument like a knife, said he didn’t know how he got hurt, Blatman said.

Officers learned that Galvan’s 14-year-old brother apparently had been at the park and his 17-year-old sister called to say the younger brother was being attacked by another man.

The man was identified as being a 21-year-old suspected gang member, but Blatman said officers haven’t found the man to question him.

When Galvan arrived, he reportedly tried to choke the man fighting his brother and that apparently is when he got cut, police said.

Galvan, however, told police that he blacks out when he gets real angry, so he didn’t remember how he got hurt.

Officers took the siblings to the police station once Galvan was treated and questioned them.

Galvan was booked into the Benton County jail early Monday on suspicion of rioting, but had been released by the afternoon.

Galvan’s sister and brother were taken to the juvenile detention center on suspicion of rioting before being released to a parent.
