Jersey City leader of a Bloods gang faction pleads guilty to role in mistaken-identity killing of teen

A Jersey City man who is a reputed leader in the Bloods street gang pleaded guilty yesterday to a racketeering charge in relation to the mistaken-identity killing of a city teen in 2004.

Emmanuel Jones, 27, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to violate federal racketeering laws for allegedly assisting another gang member in the July 19, 2004 killing of Michael Taylor, 17.

Jones, a leader of the Fruit Town and Brick City Brims set of the Bloods, and co-defendant Torien Brooks, 30, of Paterson, shot Taylor after they mistook him for a man who had shot at a gang member earlier that day, federal officials said.

Taylor was shot multiple times in the chest during the incident at the corner of Wilkinson Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Stray bullets also struck three other bystanders, according to officials.

In addition to the 2004 fatal shooting, Jones admitted he was responsible for conspiring to murder a rival gang member in October 2006 when they were both incarcerated at the Hudson County jail in Kearny, federal officials said.

Jones faces a maximum sentence of life in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced on Oct. 25.
