RIALTO • A Victorville gang member has been arrested as a suspect in the shooting death of a Rialto teen over the weekend, officials said.
The 17-year-old was shot multiple times while checking rival gang members for weapons at a large party early Saturday in the 500 block of E. Shamrock Street in Rialto, the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner said.
The wounded teen was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at 12:42 a.m. Saturday, officials said.
One hundred to 300 people were gathered at the party, officials said, and the shooter left with others in a silver BMW.
During their investigation Saturday, police asked the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Victorville station to arrest a local man for interviews regarding the case, Rialto Police Sgt. Richard Royce said.
Deangelo Levondra Rand, 19, of Victorville was arrested early Sunday morning by sheriff’s deputies and interviewed by Rialto police, Royce said.
Rand was then arrested at 6:30 a.m. on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, willful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and participation in a criminal street gang, officials said.
He is being held without bail at West Valley Detention Center, according to jail records, and is due to appear in Victorville Superior Court Tuesday.
