SANTA CRUZ – The gang-related fatal shooting of a Cuesta College student in Watsonville’s Apple Hill neighborhood in March 2009 was caught on tape, a police officer said in court Monday.

Four surveillance cameras put in place by the homeowners blankociation monitor the playground and pool areas, and one captured the deadly attack, Watsonville police master officer Russell Orlandos said while testifying during the preliminary hearing for the two alleged Salinas gang members accused of gunning down Angel Escobedo, 19, of Hollister on March 21, 2009.

The tape will be played in court during the hearing, which is expected to last much of the week. The video is poor quality but it does show a man, the suspected shooter, dressed in black. It shows men playing basketball, then one man falls down, rolling down the hill, Orlandos said in court.
