Another Shooting in Anaheim Amid Concerns About Violence
ANAHEIM, Calif. — Police are investigating an apparent gang-related shooting in Anaheim, where violent crime and police shootings are on the rise.
The shooting happened just before midnight on Wednesday. Witnesses said the man was just walking down the street when he was shot.
Paramedics rushed the victim to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition.
No suspect information or vehicle description has been released.
Investigators say that the victim is a known gang member.
This latest shooting comes during what has been a very tense and volatile time in the city of Anaheim.
Last month, community protests over two fatal officer-involved shootings turned into street riots and altercations with police.
So far this year, Anaheim police have fired at seven people, killing five of them.
In comparison, the city recorded two deadly officer-involved shootings in 2011 and none in 2010.
Police and city officials say that the increase is intertwined with an uptick in gang violence and violent crime.
