2 wounded in separate shootings

FULLERTON – Police are investigating two separate gang-related shootings that occurred about five hours and six miles apart on Wednesday morning. Two men were wounded but both are expected to recover, police said.

The most recent shooting occurred shortly after 8 a.m. in a known gang area near Gilbert Street and Orangethorpe Avenue, said Sgt. Andrew Goodrich of the Fullerton Police Department.

The wounded man knocked on a door of a home and asked the resident for help, Goodrich said.

Officers found a man who had been shot. He was taken to a trauma center with non-life threatening injuries, Goodrich said.

Details of what led to the shooting, where it occurred, and a description of the shooter were not immediately available.

Goodrich said the victim is not cooperating with detectives.

At 2:43 a.m., police got a call regarding shots fired at the El Pollo Loco parking lot at 125 E. Imperial Hwy., near Harbor Boulevard, said Lt. Lorraine Jones of the Fullerton Police Department.

Officers found a man who had been hit by gunfire. He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Jones said.

During the investigation, police learned a fight broke out between two men over a girl, Goodrich said, adding that one of the men was an ex-boyfriend and the other was a current boyfriend.

One of the men went to his car, got a handgun and fired, Goodrich said. But the man missed his intended target and the bullet struck an innocent bystander who was not involved in the altercation, he said.

During the fight, someone yelled the name of an Asian gang.
