Suspect in Chatsworth Double Homicide Faces Gun Charges

Associated Press / NBC Los Angeles | August 24, 2011

The suspect in a Los Angeles double killing who was arrested after a seven-hour dragnet with police has been charged with assault with a firearm on an officer and other weapons counts.

The district attorney’s office said Wednesday they weren’t ready to charge 43-year-old Brent Zubek with murder, but that he is considered a suspect in the death of a Chatsworth couple.

Their decomposing bodies were found Aug. 12 near the home they once shared with Zubek.

Zubek was sought for questioning when he fired at officers who had him under surveillance Sunday. A manhunt was launched, and several hours later Zubek was shot and wounded in the hip after he pulled a gun and pointed at officers.

The shooting at police, not the double-homicide, is the basis for 8 felony counts filed against him in San Fernando Superior Court.
