CHULA VISTA (CNS) – Life sentences were handed down Tuesday for two gang members who shot and wounded a man outside a South Bay bar, then ran down the Chula Vista police officer who was pursuing them.
James Martinez, 21, was sentenced to 98 years to life behind bars and Sean Darby O’Neill, 23, was sentenced to 44 years to life in prison.
Both defendants were convicted in July of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, use of a firearm, personal infliction of great bodily injury, threatening an officer with force and driving with a wanton disregard for safety while fleeing an officer.
Jurors also found true an allegation that the crimes were committed for the benefit of a street gang.
