Authorities on Friday arrested a 17-year-old boy suspected of being involved in a shooting Thursday in west Modesto near Modesto High School.

One shot was fired in the gang-related shooting, but nobody was injured, said Sgt. Brian Findlen, a Modesto police spokesman.

He said the teenager was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, shooting from a moving vehicle and home invasion robbery. Police did not release his name because he is a minor.

Police said they still are looking for the driver, who they suspect is Jose Villasenor, 20, of Modesto, shown above.

Findlen said two groups of suspected gang members were involved in a fight near the Jack in the Box restaurant on Paradise Road when a gun was fired from a passing vehicle. The suspected shooter was a passenger in a black Chevrolet S-10 pickup. About 11:20 a.m. on Friday, a Modesto police officer spotted a similar vehicle near Modesto High.

Findlen said officers detained the 17-year-old after he was spotted standing near the 1996 Chevrolet S-10. Investigators believe the teen is also one of the suspects in a May home invasion robbery in east Modesto, Findlen said. Modesto police ask anyone with information about Villasenor’s whereabouts to call the Central Valley Gang Impact Task Force at 538-5636 or Crime Stoppers at 521-4636.
