Los Angeles: Man injured in apparent gang-related shooting

City News Service | September 16, 2012

A man riding in a car was hospitalized early this morning with a shoulder wound he suffered after being shot by the driver of a passing car in a gang-related attack in South Los Angeles, a police sergeant said.

He was listed in stable condition at California Hospital Medical Center, said a police sergeant at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Southwest station.

The car-to-car shooting took place about 12:45 a.m. at Normandie and Vernon avenues, said Los Angeles police Sgt. D. Blue, a watch commander at the Southwest Division.

“The victim, a male, was the passenger in a vehicle driven by a female,” said Blue. “The suspect drove up to them and asked the passenger where he was from. The suspect shot the victim in the shoulder when he answered.”

Gang members often ask a potential victim where he or she is from right before an attack, according to authorities.

The woman driving the victim kept going until they got to a hospital, said Blue.
