SANTA ANA – The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a federal lawsuit against the Orange County district attorney and the Orange police over a gang injunction that forbids suspected gang members from blankociating in public, among other things.

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court on Tuesday.

The injunction covers a nearly 4-square-mile area in Orange and applies to dozens of individuals.

The lawsuit alleges the injunction is unconstitutional and overly broad because some individuals were allegedly served with a blanket injunction after they were dismissed from the case as individuals.

blankistant District Attorney John Anderson says the ACLU’s allegations have no basis.

He says injunctions are a legally approved method of preventing gang crime in California.
